Both the Wildcat Baseball and Volleyball teams advanced in their respective Mountain Region Tournaments on Tuesday. Baseball managed its second consecutive late inning rally to knock off 2nd seed Palo Verde while Volleyball took care of Canyon Springs 3-0. Both teams will be taking on Arbor View @4pm today (Wednesday the 8th). Ready about all the details below:
Las Vegas 4, Palo Verde 2 — At Palo Verde, Leonel Anaya’s two-run double in the top of the ninth inning lifted the Wildcats past the Panthers in a winners’ bracket semifinal.
Layne Adaro started the ninth-inning rally with a single. Daniel Jimenez drew a walk, and both runners moved up on Trevor Johnson’s sacrifice bunt. With two outs, Anaya stroked the go-ahead double.
Anaya finished 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs, and Dalton Silet was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for Las Vegas.
Peyton Cole was 2-for-2 for Palo Verde (23-9), which will host Centennial (24-10) in an elimination game at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
Las Vegas 7, Shadow Ridge 6 — At Las Vegas High, Nathan Freimuth’s single to left field plated Layne Adaro with the winning run with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Wildcats scored three runs in the seventh to edge the Mustangs.
Adaro had an RBI double in the inning, and the Wildcats scored the tying run when Trevor Johnson reached on an error.
Jose Martinez was 2-for-2 with two RBIs, and Leonel Anaya was 2-for-2 for Las Vegas (23-7), which will visit Palo Verde (23-8) in a winners’ bracket semifinal at 4 p.m. Tuesday. Daniel Martinez had a two-run home run for Las Vegas.
Branson Tressler was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs for Shadow Ridge (19-10), which will host Rancho (14-12-1) in an elimination game at 4 p.m. Tuesday. Ashton Caniglia was 2-for-4 with a double for the Mustangs.
Las Vegas 3, Canyon Springs 0 — At Las Vegas High, Jaelin Gray had 12 kills, four aces and 11 digs to help the Wildcats to a 25-15, 25-18, 25-19 sweep of the Pioneers.
Kevin Sweitzer had 24 assists, three kills, three aces and six digs, and Ashton Barney had 21 digs for Las Vegas (18-19), which will face Arbor View (31-5) in a quarterfinal at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Centennial.
Malachi Su’a led Canyon Springs (4-19) with five kills and four digs. Curtiss Viamagalo had five kills, and Sho Hampton added four kills and seven digs for the Pioneers.
