Girls Volleyball

LVHS girls Volleyball summer 2016Las Vegas Wildcat Girls Volleyball Info

All girls interested in trying out for the 2016 girls volleyball team are encouraged to attend summer open gym practices.  Prospective players of all levels who attend summer open gyms will learn basic skills and become familiar with the game at the high school level before try-outs, enhancing their chances of making the team.  We keep approximately 15 girls on all three levels, B-Team (freshmen), JV, and Varsity and are looking for student athletes who exhibit the values of our program (emphasis on academics, teamwork, & work ethic) as well as athletic ability.  Here are some commonly asked questions:

  • What should I wear to practice? What time should I be there?

Girls should wear athletic clothing like a t-shirt, gym shorts/spandex, athletic socks and court shoes.  Knee pads are encouraged but not necessary.  Girls should arrive to practice 15-20 minutes before the scheduled start in order to help set up nets and get the gym ready.  Bring water!

  • Do I have to go to all the open gyms?

No.  Everything before try-outs is completely optional and intended to get the girls ready and comfortable for try-outs.  See open gym schedule attached.

  • What do I need to do in order to try-out?

The main thing is turning in the athletic packet to the athletic office in the gym foyer.  No athletes are allowed to try-out without being cleared by our athletic office per NIAA regulations.  Try-outs for all levels are on August 13th from 9-11:30am and 1-3pm.  All athletes must be present for both sessions and may bring a sack lunch with them to eat in-between sessions.  Girls will know if they made the team at the end of the day.

  • What does it cost to be on the team?

We are proud that athletes can participate in our program without any direct cost.  We do A LOT of fundraising and athletes will be required to work the tournament that we host, participate in the mattress fundraiser, sell program t-shirts and ads, as well as our Firehouse Subs community nights.  These fundraisers allow our program to participate in multiple tournaments each as well as for the varsity team to travel (last year they visited Yosemite NP, Stockton and San Francisco CA).  The only things athletes will be required to buy on their own are shoes and black game spandex/shorts.

  • Who should I contact with further questions?
